Why can t dna leave the nucleus?
Answer and Explanation: DNA cannot leave the nucleus because that would risk it getting damaged. DNA carries the genetic code and all of the information needed for cells and organisms to function properly.
During replication, DNA does not leave the nucleus.
This because all the machinery for replication, enzymes, and cofactors are found in the nucleus as well as the extra nucleotides.
Transcription: DNA is too large to leave the nucleus. If the program it contains must leave the nucleus, an intermediate must be produced. This intermediate is called m-RNA. m-RNA is formed in the following way, RNA polymerase binds to, a region of the DNA called, the promoter.
Because a protein complex called 'nuclear pore complex' doesn't allow mRNA to enter the nucleus (except for when a retrovirus is involved). 'Nuclear pore' complex is a complex on the nuclear membrane and it is responsible for deciding what can cross the nuclear membrane in what direction and what cannot.
Most DNA is located in the cell nucleus (where it is called nuclear DNA), but a small amount of DNA can also be found in the mitochondria (where it is called mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA). Mitochondria (Figure 5) are structures within cells that convert the energy from food into a form that cells can use.
The copying of DNA always takes place along with the creation of additional cellular structure. This process is then followed by the division of a cell into two cells. In this way the amount of DNA remains constant through each new generation.
In organisms called eukaryotes, DNA is found inside a special area of the cell called the nucleus. Because the cell is very small, and because organisms have many DNA molecules per cell, each DNA molecule must be tightly packaged. This packaged form of the DNA is called a chromosome.
If the cell becomes too large, the information on the DNA would not be able to keep up with the demands of the cell. This results in DNA overload, which can only be resolved by cell division. Therefore, the risk of DNA overload is the reason why the size of a cell is limited by its DNA.
Without nucleus the cell will lose its control. It can not carry out cellular reproduction. Also, the cell will not know what to do and there would be no cell division. Gradually, the cell may die.
Chromatin and Chromosomes - Packed inside the nucleus of every human cell is nearly 6 feet of DNA, which is divided into 46 individual molecules, one for each chromosome and each about 1.5 inches long.
